Ist Intercity Meeting on this year’s Rotary Theme:

  • Was held on 9th August (Sunday) at Rotary Sadan. PDG Rtn Anjan Kumar and PDG Rtn Sidhartha Sadan Bose were the key note speakers on this years’ RI President Rtn John Kenny’s theme, The Future of Rotary is in your Hands.
  • CP Rtn Sanjit , Club Service Director Rtn Chittaranjan and President Rtn Kuldip attended.
  • The RI Theme acknowledges the important role individual Rotary clubs will play in shaping the future of Rotary.
  • The Future of Rotary will not be shaped at RI headquarters—it will be shaped in each and every Rotary club, because it is for each of us—as Rotarians to do what is necessary to keep Rotary strong.
  • Each one of us is standing on the shoulders of generations of Rotarians past, and it is our responsibility to determine Rotary’s future.
  • The goals we set, whatever our action plan, it is in our hands to accomplish or not. Everybody has to be involved.

Will be held at Rotary Sadan During 4th to 6th September, 2009
There will be no Registration Fee to be charged from the RYLA participants.

Minutes of the 735th Regular Club meeting of Rotary Club of Calcutta South City held at Metropole, 174, Sarat Bose Road, Kolkata-29 on 4th August, 2009 at 6.30 P.M.

President, Rtn Kuldip Singh Virdi:
  • called the 735th Meeting to order. National Anthem, this being the month of August, month of our Independence, was sung by all members present led by Rtn Pulak Mokherjee.
  • requested to please switch off their mobiles during the meeting.
  • welcomed our PP Rtn Pulak who attended the weekly meeting after undergoing bye pass surgery. A welcome gift was presented to him by CP Rtn Sanjit on behalf of all club members.
  • Also welcomed IPP Rtn Rathin who also attended the weekly meeting, although he was not totally well. We appreciate his will power and pray to the almighty so that he is perfectly well soon.
  • minutes of the regular meeting No: 734 held on 28st July, 09 were confirmed, in absence of any objection.
  • requested all members to kindly pay their club dues including advertisement charges and Installation dinner charges immediately to our Treasurer CP Rtn Sanjit. as we have already sent District dues, RI 1st Half Yearly dues and The Rotary News Subscription in time on 24th July,09 for the current Rotary year. We need cooperation of each and every member of our club in this matter.
  • requested Club Secretary, Rtn Sanjay Kumar Kanodia to conduct regular club business.

Club Secretary, Rtn Sanjay Kumar Kanodia:
  • announced that Board Meeting for the month of July, 09 will be held at the residence of Vice President Rtn Harbhajan Singh Thethi on Saturday, the 1st August, 2009 at 7 P.M.It will be followed by fellowship and dinner arranged by Rtn Thethi and Anne Rajinder. Board members were requested to attend in time.
  • extended heartiest birthday greetings to:Rtn Tripti Dutta for 8th August , Mt. Anurag Chatterjee (S/O: Rtn Dilip Ch. Chatterjee) for 9th August.
  • informed the members that Matching grants for IOL at Murshidabad and Computer Literacy Projects at Rotary Computer Centre are under process and soon it may be approved by RI
  • announced the club statistics and requested the members to attend next regular club meeting at our new venue METROPOLEon 11th August, 09 Tuesday, between 6.30 P.M. to 8.30 P.M. in time.
President, Rtn Kuldip Singh Virdi terminated the regular meeting.

Polio Plus is not about raising money; it is about saving children – Walter Maddocks

In November, 2007 the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, chaired by Bill Gates of Microsoft announced a financial support of
US$ 100 million to Rotary’s global campaign to eradicate Polio.
The grant is one of the largest challenge grants ever given by the Gates Foundation and the largest grant received by Rotary in its 103 years history.
The grant was given to TRF with one important understanding that TRF will raise and equal amount in 3 years.
The Rotary Foundation requests Rotarians all over the world to meet the US$ 100 Million Polio Plus Challenge, dollar by dollar, over three years by 2010.
Google Foundation has also donated US$ 3.5 million.
A giant Rotary wheel with the words End Polio Now was beamed in London, on the side of the House of Commons to the left of Big Ben, on RIs 103rd birthday on February 23, 2008. It was done to herald the US$ 100 million Polio Plus Challenge to eradicate polio from the world.
